(by phalanx i mean shield walls with spears) Oh and also i heard the Samurais did fight phalanx style troops before when invading Korea (late 16th century) and Mongolians (13th century). and Spartans are over rated as well, but id say Samurai (fact : Katanas sucked balls) (fact 2: Sparta lost to gays). Just want to point out one little thing pankration is both striking and grappling not just grapplingĪny who Legionary will win. Then again, who know's, the Samurai might do something really stupid against a unit of spartan hoplites because they'd never faced hoplites or their tactics before and might not know what to do. It should be noted that the Spartans primary losses were during its decline (385 and on), and, assuming we use both in their prime, it would most likely turn out that Samurai would win due to technological superiority. Unit on Unit, I would say that a well trained group of 30 samurai vs a well-trained group (obviously) of spartans.mmmmm, unless those Samurai utilize their horse-archery, and can hit the size of a plumb (a little larger than the opening in the spartans masks) from 20-30 yards away, then they aren't going to take on a group of spartans easily. Spartans didn't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about what "discipline" you used and what style you wanted to duel in, they would go in and simple trip you, bash you, push you, stab at you, and even gouge your eyes out if that's what it took (and they did). So really, it would only take the Spartan around 1 well-placed shot in the face with their shield to daze an opponent before pushing them and tripping them to the ground and stabbing them in the face with their spear. If you're talking about the Samurai from the 12th century, psh, they stand no chance against Spartan hoplites, but if you're talking about the 16th - 17th century Samurai, which wore heavy plated armor and weilded higher quality steel swords than their earlier counter-parts (though still somewhat bleak in quality compared to European swords), then it depends on the circumstances.ġ on 1, a Spartan was trained in pankration, which was a lethal, brutal, wrestling style of martial art, wore heavy bronze armor (which was recorded as being harder than wrought iron), and not to mention the Spartans had 3 weapons, a spear, a short-sword, and their shield, which could bludgeon people to death with easily (a 30 lb object with a thin, bronze edge). They're horse-archers more than anything and it depends on what era Samurai you're talking about. So I wouldn't really use that as a credible source of information. On deadliest warrior, I'm pretty sure it was the Spartan against the Samurai. Цитата допису Who Goes Thar:I'm pretty sure the hoplites of the time continued on with history and upgraded their armaments.
