Our typical client replaces the standard set with another bias ply tire, while our industrial and commercial clients upgrade to the radial for the ride, durability, & longevity. Radial or bias ply tires? Simple answer! Always buy the trailer with bias ply tires and replace them with whatever you want after the first set wears out.Leaf spring axle is cheaper, rides smoother empty, slightly higher ride height, & much easier to repair or replace due to cost and availability. Torsion axle is more expensive, typically a lower ride height, slightly smoother loaded ride quality, & allows for independent tire/wheel movement. Ford guys! I will just give pros and cons and let you decide. Leaf spring or torsion axle? This is a loaded question and is clearly as divided as Chevy vs.12″ on center is imperative if you are putting a scissor lift in a trailer, otherwise you need to put a double thickness floor or steel diamond plate down to support weight adequately.

    We have some clients that are squeezing the centers down to 12″ because of the larger zero turn lawnmowers that are being made today. Any tandem axle trailers can benefit from 16″ on center floor support.

    The thicker the skin the more durable it is and the less likely the skin will distort from use and temperature change. If you are not particular about your trailer and you don’t live in a warmer climate then. The question is, does it matter? Darker colors will tend to warp and get wavy from heat. We recently built a motorcycle trailer with. A standard entry level trailer will come with. The purpose of the premium trailer is for commercial, industrial or heavy use customer. The purpose of the entry level trailer is for a casual user or a price conscience buyer.

    Does thickness of the outer skin matter? All trailer companies have entry level and premium line trailers available.An aluminum trailer will maintain a much higher resale value for the usable life of the trailer. Aluminum typically costs 20-50% more than a comparable steel enclosed trailer. Steel will most definitely rust, can crack, & be heavier than it’s aluminum brother. We love our Cargo Mate, Lightning, & Rance aluminum trailers, but they are not maintenance free. Aluminum trailers have to be checked for cracks periodically and require maintenance to keep there shine.

    Aluminum trailers will not rust, but a properly coated and undercoated steel trailer can last just as long as an aluminum trailer. A well built 6 x 10 enclosed trailer will save you about 180lbs off of a 1200lb steel trailer. Most people think aluminum will be a 50% weight savings, but in reality you usually save 5-25% depending on the trailer and manufacture.
